Excursions

Inter-School Maths Competitions That Inspire, Challenge & Connect

In addition to our in-school workshops, Maths in Hands offers enriching maths excursions β€” specially designed for high-achieving students from Stage 4 and Stage 5. Schools can bring up to 10 students to a nearby designated venue to participate in an engaging, structured inter-school maths competition. These excursions offer more than just a challengeβ€”they provide an opportunity for students to compete, collaborate, and grow alongside like-minded peers from other schools. It’s a chance to experience the excitement of maths beyond the classroom.

πŸŽ“ What Students Gain from Our Excursions

Our excursions are thoughtfully designed to extend learning, promote deeper thinking, and build essential life and academic skills:
βœ” Compete in a real-world setting with students from other schools, building resilience and confidence
βœ” Collaborate with peers through team-based problem-solving and shared strategies
βœ” Strengthen logical reasoning, critical thinking, and creativity through non-routine challenges
βœ” Experience mathematics as a social, hands-on, and energising discipline

The competition environment motivates students to strive for excellence while encouraging a growth mindset and mutual respect among participants.

🏫 Professional Learning Opportunities for Teachers

Our excursions are equally valuable for educators. They offer a space for collaborative professional learning, peer observation, and reflective practice.

Teachers have the opportunity to:
βœ” Observe diverse teaching styles and problem-solving approaches used by students and facilitators
βœ” Engage in rich professional conversations with colleagues from other schools
βœ” Gain fresh perspectives and new ideas on how to engage students in mathematics through hands-on, inquiry-based approaches
βœ” Network and build community with like-minded professionals passionate about maths education
